BNI Realtor Focus Day

By , December 6, 2012 10:24 pm

The Realtor position in my business networking group (BNI – Loudoun Business Connection) is now open. So, today our group had a Realtor focus day instead of the usual keynote speaker. So, there are a lot of Realtors visiting our chapter until we pick one to fill the spot (which probably won’t be until the end of January at the earliest). Might be a good time for those of you looking to meet Realtors to come visit!

Next week’s keynote presenter will be Craig Wells from Mainstreet Landscaping. We meet every Wednesday from 11:30am-1:30pm at River Creek Country Club in Leesburg. Let me know if you’d like to come check it out!

Wasser Christmas Party

By , December 3, 2012 9:24 pm

On Saturday night, I photographed a totally fun Christmas party for the Wasser Family. This was the 25th year in a row that they have done a Christmas party to celebrate with their friends. So, this one was special for them. They set up a fun background with stringed lights behind white fabric with some silver trees and champagne for photographing couples as they arrived. Later during the party I printed the portraits and put them into cardboard ornament frames for the Wassers to give their guests as gifts. Unfortunately, I didn’t think of it at the time, but I should have photographed the printed images in their frames once they were complete so I could show you how smashing they were. The prints were a big hit. There was also some great food, a live singer, and some super cute elves to greet guests and take their coats. A great time was had by all!

Wicker Homes Client Appreciation Party

By , November 12, 2012 9:40 am

This past weekend I photographed a client appreciation party for Wicker Homes. It was a great time! There was delicious food, wine, and GG’s Frozen Treats. Their party was a “Party with a Purpose” which included a silent auction and raffle to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network. I donated a family portrait session as part of the silent auction which received bids. So, I am happy that I can use my photography to help the cause. There was also some other fun activities including shuffleboard, billiards, and darts.

UPDATE: $3,125 was raised for Children’s Miracle Network! I’m proud to know such generous people!

Starloft Testimonial by Pamela Jones

By , October 10, 2012 4:30 pm

Yesterday, I recorded a testimonial video with Pamela Jones from Long & Foster and Extraordinary Transitions for Starloft. It came out pretty well, though, the sound is a little echoey from the size of the room. Though, for just using the onboard camera microphone, I think it came out well. I do have a digital recorder that I plan to use for future shoots requiring sound recording. Testimonial videos is a service I plan to offer in the very near future. So, if you’re interested, let me know. Enjoy!

Monroe Valley Place Real Estate Video

By , September 21, 2012 11:14 pm

Well, I tried my second real estate video shoot and had much better results compared to my first video shoot. Though, I still made lots of mistakes. So, the learning continues. I still had some issues with focusing. My panning was more consistent this time, and I think I figured out how to control the exposure a bit better, which was good. A couple of my exterior shots were not level which looked sort of weird when they were mixed with ones that were level. While I was editing I also noticed some opportunities where I could have created more interest with the shots that I didn’t think about when I was shooting. For example, if the fireplaces were gas fireplaces, I could have turned them on to have flickering flames in the shots. I could have also had running water in the kitchen and bathroom shots. Next time, I will remember these things.

This house was the same one that I photographed here. So, as you can tell, I’m a much better photographer than I am a videographer at this point. haha!

Thank you to Pamela Jones of Extraordinary Transitions and Long & Foster for this opportunity!

Shallow Rock Square Bathroom

By , September 19, 2012 9:57 pm

I had the opportunity to shoot another bathroom remodel by Collins Tile & Stone yesterday. I had a little trouble with this one because I had a pretty small space to work in. It was a rectangular, narrow space with the toilet at one end (which I try not to include in the photos very often) and glass shower doors at the other end (which pretty much act like a mirror reflecting my likeness back unless I’m at an angle). The shower was pretty sweet with two shower heads and beautiful tile.

On Monday, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful model home in Creighton Farms for Pamela Jones of Extraordinary Transitions and Long & Foster. The exterior shot could have benefited from a little cloud cover so there wasn’t a big shadow across the front, but it still looks pretty darn awesome. I loved the detail and craftsmanship in this home. So, I used HDR to showcase some of that detail. For just $2,350,000, this home could be yours!

Monmouth Terrace Real Estate Video

By , September 9, 2012 9:15 pm

Recently, I tried doing my first real estate video which came out pretty terribly, but I learned a lot and I am sure that my next one will be a zillion times better. Thank you very much to Tad and Debbie Wicker of Wicker Homes and RE/MAX Allegiance for letting me shoot one of their listings for this video. There were a number of issues which I think I should be able to overcome in future video shoot attempts.

A tripod is definitely required for every shot, though, I would like to get a steadycam. A steadycam allows the videographer to walk with the camera while keeping the camera shot from looking shaky. I’m not sure which steadycam to get. Some of them attach to a vest which seems like it would be a bit overkill for my purposes. So, I’d probably opt for a handheld version. I failed to use a tripod for the exterior portion of the video and it is very obvious. My Manfrotto HDV501 video head did a good job for the interior pans. Though, I need to get used to panning at a consistent speed. A couple other pieces of equipment that I want that should improve the shots are a Glidetrack slider and a ball head to mount the glidetrack slider onto my tripod So I can adjust the position of the slider easily. The slider should improve the video tremendously to make it more cinematic looking and less amateurish.

I also had some trouble controlling the exposure settings and my focus. I think I’ve figured out how to set the exposure so it doesn’t automatically adjust as I shoot, but the focus issue is going to take some practice. I think the auto focus sets the focal point at the beginning but it doesn’t seem to adjust as I move the camera. So, I need to research that a bit more. Perhaps, I’ll use manual focus next time.

Unfortunately, the audio replacement feature of youtube.com doesn’t offer fading out the song at the end of the clip. So, the audio ends a bit abruptly.

So, given all my failures, I present “Monmouth Terrace: A Learning Experience”…

I had the opportunity to photograph another bathroom remodeled by Collins Tile & Stone on Saturday. I loved the little hexagonal shaped floor tiles, the stand alone tub, and the brightness of the room. Another remodeling job, well done! Here are a few of my favorite shots from the shoot.

On Friday, I had the opportunity to do a shoot of the landscaping and design work of Main Street Landscape. It was a beautiful home and yard! With being 35 weeks pregnant, I was quite exhausted by the end of the shoot. I don’t think it would have been so bad if it wasn’t so hilly, but I loved being in the environment and enjoying the scenery.

Ashley’s Birthday Party

By , June 3, 2012 6:45 am

This was a fun birthday party for Ashley! The party was at a hotel due to the rain. Originally, it was planned for Algonkian Park, but we had major thunderstorms and tornadoes rolling through. I don’t think the weather bothered anybody one bit, though. In addition to the traditional birthday festivities, the girls had their make up done, dads made cotton candy, and the girls enjoyed swimming at the hotel pool. I even did a selective color group shot of the girls with their cotton candy.
